Whether you want to add extra edge to a feminine look or you’re trying to give off a carefree cool-girl vibe, a moto jacket is the chic, versatile piece every leading lady should own.

Today, I’m sharing 5 ways to wear this iconic jacket that will take you from daytime to evening as well as my top picks from luxe to budget price points.

The Motorcycle Jacket

The motorcycle jacket is basically just an edgier take on a classic leather jacket. You will sometimes see it referred to as a ‘biker jacket’. It usually has a shorter hem, more zippers or hardware, and made of leather, faux leather, or suede. Anyone, at any age can wear a moto-jacket!

If you are purchasing one for the first time, I would suggest buying it in black, with minimal hardware. A real leather moto jacket is a timeless investment piece that will bring you years of wear.

You will throw it on mostly in the fall and winter months, but it is a perfect layering piece for spring time as well.

How To Wear A Moto Jacket

Along with denim jackets and trench coats, moto jackets are an absolute wardrobe staple. You can dress them up or you can dress them down, and they add an air of effortless cool to just about any ensemble. Hopefully these 5 ways to wear a moto jacket will inspire you to bring your jacket out of the back of your closet and create year round dressing.

1.) Wear it to work:

For a day at the office, wear your moto jacket with dark washed jeans and a crisp white button down and simple flats. Style it over a dress or with a silk blouse, pencil skirt and boots/pumps for triple duty. Your moto jacket can be part of your business casual capsule wardrobe. The lapels are blazer-esque which adds structure to your look without being too stuffy. Look like a #bosslady in an unexpected color like burgundy or camel.

2.) Wear it on weekdays:

When it comes to moto jackets, don’t discount this absolutely classic and timeless pairing that’s cool, casual and grown-up. Wear your favorite cropped, straight leg or boyfriend jeans with your favorite moto jacket and booties for errand running or lunch with the girls.

I adore this faux leather jacket that I am wearing. The color is called fawn and it is a perfect, year round neutral. I especially love the ribbing on the sleeves because it gives this jacket added comfort. At $98, I highly recommend this jacket, plus it comes in black too. Paired with my favorite Mother cropped jeans and the Rowen Bootie ($99 and comes in 7 colors), I am ready to take on my weekly obligations in style.

3.) Wear it on the weekends:

The weekends are all about relaxing and effortless fashion. Wear your moto jacket with your weekend ready athleisure wear like joggers or denim shorts, a white tee and your favorite sneakers.

4.) Wear it for travel:

Black leggings, a black v-neck tee and your leather jacket draped effortlessly over your shoulders is the perfect combination of chic and comfy for your next long plane ride.

5.) Dress it up for a night out:

While a biker jacket can be a bit rough around the edges, the rest of this outfit screams ‘fancy’. I call this the tough and tender look! A moto jacket paired with a pleated midi skirt creates the perfect balance for a date night, evening event or those holiday parties that are right around the corner.

Shopping For A Moto Jacket:

If you are in the market for a moto jacket, first decide what your budget is. If you are looking for an investment piece that will last forever, consider brands like Iro, All Saints, Lamarque or Worth.

Luxury Moto Jackets:

More budget friendly brands are Cupcakes & Cashmere, BB Dakota, BlankNYC (my fave) and Topshop.

Budget Friendly Moto Jackets:

If you already own a moto jacket and want to add a fun piece to your fall wardrobe, consider a moto jacket in a trendier fall print or chic metallic. I’m dying over this Leopard Print Moto Jacket.
