Well… 2020 is already proving to be a year of BIG changes for this girl. I will share more in a later post when I have time to gather my thoughts and feelings. They say when one door closes another opens and that couldn’t be more true!
As I was planning out my content for January I realized I never shared this chic burgundy sweater dress that I photographed in early December. It’s on sale for only $41, so I highly recommend grabbing it now! Plus I’m giving you 5 style tips on how to wear a classic, cozy sweater dress.

Burgundy Knit Dress
Cozy knit dresses have been a big trend for fall and winter and we won’t see them going away in 2020. Burgundy happens to be one of my favorite colors to wear in the colder months and when I saw this dress, I knew it would be a great staple in my closet. It’s a chunky knit with large cabled details but doesn’t feel bulky on the body. The reviews say it runs large, however I ordered my normal size (small) and was happy with the fit.
This burgundy dress is a no-brainer if you are looking for a simple silhouette that can be updated by creating new, unexpected combinations.

How To Wear A Sweater Dress
Tip #1: Maximize Mixing and Matching
Think of your solid hued dress as a canvas. Throw on a jacket in denim or a statement making print (think leopard!) and get creative with your layering here. Adding a scarf or faux fur like this plush burgundy faux fur (only $39) gives this dress some more dimension and interest. On a really cold day I would also add black tights.
Tip #2: Reverse Layering
Layering pieces over a sweater dress is obvious but how about layering under your dress? Adding a crisp white cotton button down blouse or a denim button down blouse would be ultra cool under any crew or v-neck dress. For inspiration, think of how you like to style your sweaters. The same rules apply here.
Tip #3: Wear with Boots
A sweater dress paired with boots may perhaps be the most classic of combinations. It works with boots of any height and many different styles. Tall boots are classic and elegant. Ankle booties are a little edgier and modern. Boots with a stacked heel complement knits by adding balance.
Tip #4: Belt It
Throw on a belt to create an hourglass. A simple black belt or even a leopard print belt would look dynamite on most solid color dresses.
Tip #5: Wear with Sneakers
On warmer winter days, wearing a sweater dress with sneakers is a very cool and totally acceptable look. I love to travel in sweater dresses and sneakers for ultimate comfort.
