We have all heard the rule, over and over…’no white after Labor Day’.
However, if you do a little research, this rule came about in the early 1900’s and was based on the vacationing schedule of the rich. They wore their ‘white’s’ to the sunny shores and vacation homes and then packed them away when returning home to the city. It was an elitist ‘thing’.
So silly when you think about it now…
Fashion rules have always been meant to be broken. Wearing ‘black’ at one time only meant you were in mourning. ‘Denim’ was only worn by miners and coal workers. Can you imagine if those fashion rules had never been tested?
Many would never dream of wearing white after Labor Day, and I can totally respect their opinions, even if they might give me the stink eye for wearing white.
Even Emily Post, the epitome of etiquette advice, says wearing white is no longer a faux pas, and you should concentrate more on the fabrics you’re wearing than the color.
Coco Chanel wore white year round. If Coco did…we can too!
Before I go any further, Nordstrom Rack and Rue La La are having major sales on AQUATALIA! If you are not familiar with this Italian brand of shoe, they are known for their weatherproof and stain-resistant technology and sold at fine retailers like Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstroms and Saks Fifth Avenue. They are not cheap, but well worth every penny. I am wearing a pair in my photos that I just bought on sale.

HOW TO WEAR WHITE AFTER LABOR DAY:
1.) ACCESSORIZE FOR THE SEASON:
No brainer, really! But make sure you are accessorizing your look in fall colors that complement shades of white. This should include your shoes, belt, handbag and jewelry. Shades of brown or taupe are my first color choice for your boots, belt and handbag. Black and grey would be my second and third choice. Animal print and python shoes look gorgeous with your winter whites, as do jewel tones for a dressier look. Opt for gold jewelry over silver.
2.) BRING ON THE TEXTURES AND LAYERS:
White looks more fall appropriate when you mix in textures and variations of whites and neutrals. Opt for faux furs, suedes, leathers and faux suedes with your whites. The more texture and layers, the more in season you will look.

3.) FABRICS ARE EVERYTHING:
Lean towards ivory, winter white, ecru and cream. These colors blend seamlessly with optic white.

4.) INVEST IN SOME KEY PIECES:
There is nothing more beautiful than a winter white coat. I would also suggest adding a beautiful white blazer to your closet. This white blazer is a Balmain dupe and it is only $88!!! White trench coats are also super chic!
Consider investing in a beautiful statement piece.
