It is officially white jeans season and I have found that wearing white jeans can look really great or go terribly wrong. One thing I do know…white jeans will always be in fashion. So let’s discuss 5 tips on how to wear white jeans at any age plus two fabulous jackets that I have styled with my favorite white jeans of the moment.
SHOP MY LOOKS:
My white high rise, ankle length jeans are by MOTHER and available at Shopbop. They have slight fraying at the hem, a very subtle flare. These jeans suck you in at all the right places! I have these paired with a gorgeous corn-flower blue blazer by Topshop that is only $95. This blue blazer is very similar, and has a slight bit more length. Topshop runs small and for size reference I am wearing a US 6. My metallic snakeskin sandals are on repeat again and these honestly go with so many outfits that I have truly enjoyed wearing this sandal all spring. It is comfortable and a beautiful sandal for only $128. If you want something lower, I found these snakeskin sandals for $98.
In my second look, I have paired my Mother Jeans with a snake print jacket that I am literally obsessed with! This jacket by Free People is available at both Free People and Nordstrom. I fell in love with it at first sight and had to share it with all of you. Check both retailers for sizes because it is a very popular piece. This boxy, trucker style jacket is similar to a denim jacket but has the texture of snake. For reference, I am wearing a size SMALL. Neutral grey paired with white is really chic. My bone booties by Rag & Bone have been a great investment. I wore these all fall and have taken then into spring as the perfect bootie. They are a slight splurge but when you consider cost per wear, I have definitely gotten my money’s worth and I highly recommend them. When I say they are like walking on air, I am not exaggerating.
5 TIPS FOR WEARING WHITE JEANS AT ANY AGE
TIP #1: WEAR YOUR CORRECT SIZE & STYLE:
There is nothing more unflattering than a pair of white jeans that are too tight. White jeans make us look bigger than dark colored jeans so it’s important to get the right fit and proportions for our body type. Pay more attention to how they fit you than what size they are. Sometimes jeans, especially light colored ones, are more flattering if we go up in size.
For a curvy figure, look for slim or straight-legged jeans that do not hug everything too tightly. If you have a tummy, high-waist jeans reduces the chance of muffin top. Bootcut jeans are more flattering if you’re pear-shaped, and if you’re slim you might want to look at a slim “girlfriend jean.” Shorter, more petite women look best in ankle length jeans. If you are tall and lean, lucky you because you can pretty much wear any style of white jean. Once you figure out ‘your style’ of jean, stick to that style and order it in multiple washes.
TIP #2: PAY ATTENTION TO THE FABRIC:
Thin fabrics have a tendency to show all our flaws, including any dents we might have on our bottoms or thighs, the crack in our derrière and the color of our underwear. Stay away from white jeans made from thin fabric, and jeans made from stretchy fabric (2% spandex is optimal) are especially prone to show everything. These underwear are the absolutely best for wearing with light colored fabrics.
TIP #3: WEAR NUDE COLORED UNDERGARMENTS:
Always wear nude, not white, underwear with no visible panty lines so they blend in seamlessly. The best nude, soft stretch, seamless panties I have found are by Chantelle, which come in a wide array of styles from bikini to briefs to thongs.
TIP #4: STYLE YOUR WHITE JEANS CORRECTLY:
Unless you are very thin you need to think about the color and kind of tops or blazers you wear. Regardless of your figure type, dressing in a column of white is flattering and slimming on just about everyone. This white blouse from Southcott Threads would be so cute with your white jeans. If you’re curvy you may want to wear lighter colored tops, and if you’re really curvy, you may want to go for a long, light colored top that covers part of your backside. Dressing in a column of white is super chic and adding a pastel blazer like the one I have on or this pretty pink blazer is a fresh spring look. I also love grey with white and the snake print jacket I have styled with my white jeans is a fun way to incorporate this huge spring trend.
TIP #5: PICK THE RIGHT SHOE:
White jeans should almost always be styled with a neutral colored shoe like nude, gold, silver or white. You do not want to wear your white jeans with a dark shoe or bootie because this will tend to make your legs look shorter. The only time I might wear a darker shoe is with a longer flared leg jean that is elongating to the body.
HOW TO KEEP YOUR WHITE DENIM CLEAN & CRISP
White denim is a magnet for stains. I suggest keeping a stain stick handy to treat the unexpected spill immediately. If you’re without a stain stick, soak the spill in hot water and add a touch of clear soap or shampoo to treat the area.
If your white denim is fading or starting to look not-so-white, try mixing 4 quarts of warm water with a cup of baking soda, then soak for 8 hours. Sunshine can have a bleaching effect on colors, so for an added whitening boost, hang dry your white denim pieces in the sun.
