With Thanksgiving officially over, the holiday season is now in full swing. It’s party season, ladies, and between those family get-togethers, cocktails, dinner parties, day excursions, and all the rest, December’s calendar can become just as jam-packed as your wish list.
Planning and shopping for your holiday party attire can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Let me break it down for you as simply as possible. There are certain items you need in your closet that will cover every holiday event you are attending. I call these the ‘essential five’ and if you have these particular pieces in your closet, you will surely be prepared for every ‘dress code’ listed on that invitation. I’m leaving ‘formal’ off…that is for another post altogether.
HOLIDAY PARTY ATTIRE ~ THE ESSENTIAL FIVE:
Velvet, Sequin or Tuxedo Blazer
Menswear look for holiday dressing is chic. You see it all over the red carpet. A formal jacket dressed up with matching pants for a very suited look or dressed down with jeans for a much more casual holiday soireé is cool. Invest in a beautiful velvet or sequin blazer. It is a smart choice that will be a closet staple for years to come. Style your blazer with velvet jeans, palazzo pants or a skirt. Wear it casual with jeans. This velvet blazer is an incredible price and this tuxedo jacket is stunning!
Dressy Pants or Skirt
You’ve got the blazer, now pair it with dressy pants or a beautiful skirt. There are so many options… velvet pants, palazzo pants, sequin skirts, and lace skirts. You can get a lot of bang for your buck with these pieces because they can be worn with sweaters, blouses and of course your chic blazer.
My step hem black pants have a cool velvet tuxedo stripe down the sides. These pants can be dressed up for holiday parties but I can also throw a tee shirt and sneakers on for a very casual look. They come in a beautiful blue velvet as well.
I like to call your blouse the ‘table topper’. If you are sitting at a dinner party, this is what most your guests see. You want to wear something beautiful and memorable. Gorgeous, festive cocktail blouses can be worn with your black pants, velvet pants, pencil skirts and of course your jeans for more casual events, like holiday gift exchanges with your girlfriends. This white blouse has attached bling and is so pretty!
A Festive Dress
Dresses are the easiest pieces to wear because you are one and done. I love velvet or lace dresses for the holidays in festive colors like green or red. Metallics are also very chic. However, you can’t go wrong with an LBD in black lace or velvet.
A Touch of Fur
There are so many fun faux fur items that elevate any look. If you live in a colder climate, your coat can and should be a part of your outfit. Fur capelets and boleros are an easy way to add glam to your holiday look. This red faux fur jacket would be stunning over a column of black!
Do not forget to accessorize with a pretty clutch, appropriate shoes and the right jewelry. Remember LESS IS MORE! BTW, these Kate Spade shoes, also available here, are a beautiful black pump and a great Christian Louboutin look.
