Happy New Year sweet friends and PEACE OUT to 2020! Do you want to be healthier and happier in 2021? As a midlife woman, one of my intentions is to age gracefully with my wellness being a TOP priority.
Do you have things you want to accomplish this year? If so, making YOUR well-being a priority is really the first step in meeting your goals.
Today I want to share a few ideas that might help you set yourself up for a healthier, happier 2021.

How To Get Healthier In 2021
1.) Get A Healthy Mindset
“Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.” —Aristotle
There is emerging research that shows being happy not only makes you feel better, it can actually bring many health benefits. If you start each day with a positive outlook, a healthy mindset will soon follow. Getting into the habit of a short daily meditation practice or writing in a gratitude journal are suggestions that can lead to very positive impacts on your overall health. Calm or Headspace are great guided meditation apps and there are many gratitude journals to choose from. I read from a devotional every day called Savor: Living Abundantly Where You Are, As You Are.

2.) Schedule Your Yearly Doctors Appointments
Make this a priority! Schedule your yearly mammogram, physical, dentist visit and any other check ups due. its so easy to put these off and many of us did last year due to COVID. You’ll be glad to check these off your list.

3.) Practice Self Care Each Week
Self-care is becoming more and more important in our hectic world. Try to carve out time once a week for YOU. Whether it is a bubble bath, a good mask or a face steam, a spa day at home goes a long way! 4.) Commit To Moving Your Body Everyday
This should be a top priority in getting healthier this year. Moving your body in some way every single day does not have to be hard. Exercising for 30-45 min. a day can significantly improve your health. When you exercise, it increases endorphins, dopamine and adrenaline which are brain chemicals associated with feeling good and being happy, feeling confidence and capable. Exercise has also been shown to reduce anxiety and stress…two things plaguing our country right now. Remember, even a short 20 min walk around the block has huge health benefits.

5.) Spend More Time Outside
There have been many studies that observe the correlation between nature and overall health. Nature has been proven to help with depression, exercise, and even creativity. Nature can lower blood pressure and stress hormone levels, reduce nervous system arousal, enhance immune system function, increase self-esteem, reduce anxiety, and improve mood. That sounds good from all angles. Spend time in nature, and nature is already paying you back with enhanced health and mental wellness.

6.) Start Taking A Probiotic

7.) Go To Bed Early, Wake Up Early
Sleep is absolutely essential to our health, and when you turn in early and wake up early, it’s incredibly beneficial. Studies show that people who go to bed earlier are happier, reduce their risk of diseases, and control their weight easier than those that don’t. Avoid technology one hour before bed and do some calming activities before bed. Read a good book, stretch, or meditate to get your mind in the zone for great sleep.Work on getting 8 hours of sleep a night, and start your day early!
