10 MIND/BODY STRATEGIES FOR A HEALTHIER & HAPPIER 2019:
“Every hour of every day is an unspeakably perfect miracle.” – Walt Whitman
1. Drink 24-32 oz of WATER first thing in the morning
I mean immediately… before you drink your coffee, before having breakfast and before you exercise. This will help to kick start your metabolism. Your body has been detoxifying as you sleep for the past 8 hours and water flushes these toxins out. Water is not only cleansing your body but it is hydrating and energizing. I keep a water bottle on my bathroom sink and drink my 32 oz. before I do anything else…every single morning. It is a life changer and has become a daily habit.
2. Add ONE EXTRA GREEN To your Day
This can be as easy as adding spinach to a smoothie or to your morning scrambled egg. I keep fresh broccoli, cucumbers and celery in my fridge and snack on these during the day. Grab a green smoothie or make one at home. Just one extra serving of greens a day to your diet is SO GOOD for you!
3. Daily EXERCISE
This doesn’t mean doing a full blown workout 7 days a week, but it does mean at least 20 min of exercise every single day. This can be stretching or a brisk walk around the block. It is good for circulation, your mood, and your metabolism. Just do it!
4. Get in touch with your SPIRITUALITY
Attending church or temple and spending time in prayer and meditation is so good for your health and happiness. Meditation helps calm your mind and when your mind is calm, your intuition is clearer. Calming your mind is one of the hardest things you can do, but it’s vital for letting your instinct come through. I practice a daily meditation for at least 5-10 minutes. If meditation is not your ‘thing’ find 5 minutes a day to find some silence. By just shutting out the noice and clutter of life, you are giving your mind a gift. Headspace, Calm, and Brightmind are three meditation apps to check out.
5. Add COLLAGEN to your diet
The benefits of Collagen are numerous and I really think it is the HOLY GRAIL for women’s health. Collagen helps with anti-aging and is good for your hair, nails and gives you glowing skin. It relieves arthritic and joint pain and contributes to tendon and bone strength. Collagen improves gut health and digestion. It boosts immunity much like Chicken soup. Collagen enhances athletic performance and aids in deeper sleep. Collagen also speeds in bone healing and regeneration. I take two scoops of Vital Proteins Collagen every day in either my water or coffee.
6. Daily BREATH
Inhale deeply for 5 seconds. Hold your breath for 5 seconds. Exhale slowly for 5 seconds. Do this for several minutes. So, what exactly do deep breathing exercises do for you? When you learn to take deep, slow breaths, your body reacts in many positive ways. First, your muscles relax and let go of physical tension. Oxygen delivery improves and fresh oxygen pours into every cell of the body, which improves mental concentration and physical stamina. Your blood pressure lowers. Endorphins are released which improves feelings of well-being and provides pain-relief. Also, detoxification improves and this means the lymphatic system is functioning properly and toxins are released, cleansing the body.
7. Avoid NEGATIVITY
Get rid of the toxic people in your life and surround yourself with people who lift you up, people who are kind and positive and people who make you happy. Make others feel good and build them up with things you do and say. Do something kind for someone every single day. Say something kind to someone every single day. Do not start gossip or be part of any gossip. Avoid negativity completely and see how your life will begin to immensely change.
“Kindness is the only language in the universe that everyone understands.” – Mother Theresa
“You can change your life by changing your heart.” – Max Lucado
8. Get 7-8 Hours of SLEEP EVERY Night
Studies show that a lack of sleep causes many significant changes in the body and increases your risk for serious health concerns such as obesity, disease, and even early death. When you are sleep-deprived, your brain will release chemicals to signal hunger. This can lead to eating more, exercising less, and gaining weight. A good night’s sleep helps with memory retention and maintaining a strong immune system.
9. Practice GRATITUDE
Simply keeping a gratitude journal—regularly writing brief reflections on moments for which I’m thankful, has changed my life. Science has proven it can significantly increase well-being and life satisfaction. The benefits of practicing gratitude are nearly endless. People who regularly practice gratitude by taking time to notice and reflect upon the things they’re thankful for experience more positive emotions, feel more alive, sleep better, express more compassion and kindness, and even have stronger immune systems. Gratitude journaling works because it slowly changes the way we perceive situations by adjusting what we focus on. Opening your eyes to more of the world around you can deeply enhance your gratitude practice. Calm the Chaos is a beautiful gratitude journal.
10. Read THE DASH
My mom shared this book with me after the passing of my older brother just recently. It has had a profound impact on me in the few short days since I have finished it. How will you live out your dash? Read it, share it and gift this book to those you love.
For every life fully lived, it is not the dates on your gravestone that matter. It’s the dash between those years and the adventure you make of your life that truly count.
“For it matters not, how much we own, the cars…the house…the cash. What matters is how we LIVE and LOVE and how we spend out our dash.” ~Linda Ellis
I have been blessed by my friend Ashley and have made several girls trips to Miraval in Arizona where a life in balance (mind/body/spirit) is taught and shared through thoughtful choice making. Through these experiences, I have learned and practiced some of these strategies (meditation & gratitude journaling) and some of these strategies are just good old common sense, but have profoundly changed my life and made me a happier and healthier individual.
My wish for you is a very HAPPY & HEALTHY 2019! Lastly, do not forget to tell those in your life how much you love them.

THE BEST WORKOUT WEAR
New workout wear is a huge motivator to get me to the gym so I always like to pick up a few items here and there. I like Bandier and Carbon38 for the hippest and most fun workout attire, but Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom are great as well. I’m wearing a fleece sweatshirt that is so warm. The exposed zippers making it uber cool too! My moto leggings are not only great for workouts but they can also be worn casually with boots, sneakers and your favorite sweater. I have them in several colors and wear them when I travel because they are super comfy. These leggings with stitched sides are super cool! Also, in love with these gold leopard leggings and these silver ones are a great price. This 3 in 1 packable puffer would be a great travel piece. APL shoes are the hottest things going and camo is still in! Spiritual Gangster makes the best graphic tee’s and sweatshirts.
