Have you played Pickleball? It’s a sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong using a paddle and plastic ball and it’s taking the country by storm! Pickleball is gaining in popularity because it’s ideal for all skill levels and is a super fun and social game.
I started playing this past year and wanted to share my favorite retailer, Recess Pickleball, for gear that is great quality, creative, approachable AND meant for play. Oh…and it’s always fun to coordinate your paddle with your outfit. LOL.
Grab a friend. Grab a Drink. Grab a Paddle…LET’S PLAY!
The Best Pickleball Gear
Introducing Recess Pickleball. Recess builds pickleball paddles that are fun and meant for play. They take pride in their craftsmanship and are dedicated to continue building a quality product that elevates the game and grows with their community. Not only are these paddles great quality, but they are fun, creative and make playing so much more fun!
You can shop for a 2 paddle set, 4 paddle set or 8 paddle set as well as accessories and apparel. I have the 2 Paddle Set and chose the Vista and Zuma designs. I also ordered some balls and the court bag – an ideal carry-all for pickleball paddles, pickleballs, and courtside snacks. It hangs easily on the fence during my matches.
Here’s why Recess Pickleball Paddles are superior:
CORE – Recess paddles are built with a high quality, industry standard honeycomb interior. The edge guard is custom made and designed to withstand the elements.
GRIP – Recess paddles are built with the same highly condensed foam that is used in the tennis and golf industry. The foam is then wrapped in a sweat-proof grip tape. A custom silicone ring holds the grip in place, and is a gentle reminder to not take yourself too seriously.
SURFACE – The Recess paddle surface is created out of an industry-standard durable fiberglass. Each paddle has a custom screen-print designed by favorite artists in Austin, Texas.
Custom Pickleball Paddles
Recess Pickleball also has custom paddle options. Custom paddles make for the most fun corporate gift, family reunion or wedding favor. Their in-house designers can create a custom mock up paddle for you to approve (minimum order of 50 paddles). Now how fun is this?!?

In the spring of 2020, Maggie Brown – like most people – found herself increasingly stir crazy and isolated in the face of a growing global pandemic. And that pandemic, as everyone soon discovered, didn’t act alone. Its cronies were Cabin Fever and Loneliness, and they were formidable, too. In a world of WFH, drive-by birthdays, and happy hours on Zoom, opportunities for satisfying social connection and good old-fashioned fun were at a premium. As was outdoor recreation, with everything from basketball courts to lap-pool lanes being quickly snapped up by people who, like Maggie, needed a safe space to let off steam, support their physical and mental health, and regain some semblance of normalcy. Maggie found her solace in pickleball – a somewhat obscure sport that was beloved by older generations and relatively unknown to anyone without a minivan and a mortgage. But pickleball was exactly what the doctor ordered. Social, fun, and super accessible, the sport was easy to pick up and impossible to put down. Maggie was an instant convert, going on to build a pickleball court in the backyard with her family and inspire friends to pick up a paddle and play, too. The only problem (besides that whole global pandemic thing…) was the paddles themselves: every paddle on the market had an edgy, competitive intensity and an outdated design reminiscent of 2002. Seeing the white space in the market for paddles that looked as fun and approachable as pickleball itself, Maggie set out to create a lifestyle brand that focused on the top-of-the-funnel recreational consumer. And to hone in on the brand’s light, playful aesthetic, Maggie brought on creative entrepreneur and childhood friend, Grace Moore. Inspired by the pair’s elementary school roots – they used to play together at recess – and the universal nostalgia of playing on the playground with friends as a kid, Recess Pickleball was born. Since its launch in 2021, Recess Pickleball has brought that wholesome recess feeling to people of all ages, encouraging them to take a break, have fun, and play.
Let me know if you want to go play! I’m always up for a match. I’m the one with the cute pickleball paddles!
